Advanced Fungineering
The words "engineering" and "life" are sometimes mutually exclusive here at UCSD. You have homework to do, lectures to attend, labs to write, projects to finish, laundry to do, dinner to make... it never ends. With a heavy course load and demanding extracurriculars, it is much too easy to forget to relax and have fun.
Social commitee can help! Close your textbook, get out of the lab, peel away from the computer. Our mission is to
- Get you out of Geisel for a few hours
- Build a sense of community at UCSD
- Provide social networking opportunities
- Have fun.
There are two ways to do this:
- Come to our events
- Join social committee and help plan our events. We guarantee you'll have at least as much fun (probably more) as a member of social committee!
Events
Texas Hold’Em Poker Tournament
First annual poker tournament was in winter 08. Over 30 participants! The lucky winner took home a Golden Spoon gift certificate.
Jeopardy
Are you smarter than a PhD? The 4 students in the first quarterly Jeopardy challenge apparantly weren't! Whatever, it was all because George Papen owned the Dr. Seuss category. The professor team from the winter 08 challenge consisted of

Annual Laser Tag Challenge
Which org will claim victory over the IEEE dual-laser motherboard trophy next fall? Hopefully us, but TESC puts up a mean fight!
Dragon Boat Racing
This event is our favorite! Sponsored by Professor Charles Tu, we head out mission bay and compete in a dragon boat race against top-teir companies like Qualcomm, LG, and Hewlett Packard. We got the overall fastest time in Fall 2007.
Movie Night
We all had a good laugh about the not-quite-accurate signal processing scene in Transformers.
