Student Paper Contest Results
The 2009 IEEE Regional Student Paper Contest was held at UC San Diego on April 25, 2009 as part of the Southwest Area Meeting. The papers were:
- Electric Vehicle Conversion Design. Brigham Joffs, University of Nevada at Las Vegas.
- Reducing Processing Time for LCD Motion Blur Reduction Algorithm. Eric Martinez, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology.
- UAV Search Maximising Target Acquisition. Hussain Al-Helal, University of Arizona.
- SmartCan: Instrumentation, Measurement, and Control at 70 Miles Up. James Aarestad, University of New Mexico.
- Hot Spot Mitigation in the StarCAVE. Jordan Rhee, University of California, San Diego.
The IEEE would like to thank all the participants and judges. The results were: First Place: "Hot Spot Mitigation in the StarCAVE." Tied for 2nd place: "Electric Vehicle Conversion Design" and "SmartCan: Instrumentation, Measurement, and Control at 70 Miles Up."
The competition is open to all IEEE members (only $15, join here).To submit your paper for next year's competition, see the guidelines. The submission deadline will be towards the end of Winter Quarter 2010.
UCSD Local Competition Results
Thank you to all the participants of the local IEEE student paper contest. The submissions were:

The winner of the IEEE Student Paper Contest prequalifier is Jordan Rhee, "Hot Spot Mitigation in the StarCAVE." He will present his paper on April 25th at the Southwest Area Meeting, along with students from other universities in the southwest for cash prizes of $500, $300, and $200.
