The IEEE Region 6 Southwest Area Spring Meeting is an annual meeting where sections and student branches in the Region 6 Southwest Area get together to share updates. The focus of the meeting is the Micromouse competition and the student paper contest. Jen Williamson coordinated all the logistics including hotels, travel, room reservations, catering, and registration. Jeff Wurzbach led construction of the maze, which they started building in October, 2008. Over six months and 200 man-hours later, they completed the maze in time for the competition.

The Micromouse Competition was held on April 25th, 2009 at UCSD as part of the spring IEEE Southwestern Area Meeting. This was the third consecutive year the UCSD team has fielded a robot for the competition. This year’s mouse performed significantly better than previous years’ designs. The team built a maze that complied with all IEEE specifications and was deemed acceptable for the competition. The maze is currently housed in EBU1-4710, which is on semi-permanent loan from the ECE department.
